A Journey Worth Taking
Welcome back everyone!
As I continue to work on my book, and especially this week, as I re-organize my chapters. It occurred to me that our lives are very much like a book. Like a story line in a novel, our lives are a journey made up of many chapters, facets if you will, that within themselves are whole and complete.
When I look back at my life and the defining moments, those life chapters. I felt that I had something to share about those moments, those feelings, facets of self, deep inside of me, that shaped my life forever.
I was compelled to write a poem about that. (See below). I have to say the words flowed. Why? because it’s real. It is in fact my story. As I completed the poem I realised that my experience may in fact be personal, but the journey, the content is universal.
No matter who or where you are in that journey of life, irregardless of circumstance, there is always peace and hope. May you find that!!
Namaste,
Karen
A JOURNEY WORTH TAKING
Powerless and alone, light alludes
Weary to the bone, hopelessness consumes me
Nowhere to turn, loss and grief prevails
Suffering and pain, the daily voice that hails
Circumstances call, they demand the control
The light that once was, is now a dark night of the soul
But morning always comes, another night triumphant
Blessed to be here, peace comes only in this moment
A life shattered in an instance what I call the defining moment
Serves only to show us a level of atonement
It is part of life’s journey the ebb and flow of change
It is an opportunity to powerfully re-create and mend unhealthy ways
Is cuts close to the bone, a sharp, crisp descent
One can only define the future, not by the past, but the present
Alone we never are, no matter how our world may seem
Irregardless of our circumstance we can still hope and dream
It doesn’t start with positive thinking, it begins with acceptance and love
It’s about opening up ourselves to the
the powerful defining moments, within and from above
We are all on the same journey our experiences the same
It may have many faces, some seek to understand, others to blame
But once we come to recognize the power which lies within
The life chapter that seemed ended, is now an invitation to begin.
It happens in the moment, present, here and now
So embrace the peace within you, and always remember you know how.
Powerless to powerful is what is called of us
With courage and hope, we can accept nothing less
It is a road less traveled, a crossroads, a gate
We can’t get it wrong, it is never too late
There is no hopeless hope, only perspective a point of view
Let go of the past and reclaim the gift of you.

I am my Father’s Daughter – a poem
I am in the process of writing a book about life and it’s defining moments. I decided to be a good student and complete an assignment, from my amazingly gifted writing mentor Barbara Sher (check out her website on my links section). The assignment: to write a little bit of prose. I just came back from a visit with my Dad and we shared one of those defining moments. Here is what I wrote.
In possibility, Karen
I AM MY FATHER’S DAUGHTER August 18th, 2008
I am my father’s daughter, I never knew it to be true
We share few physical characteristics, not even eyes of blue
A mild mannered man, a rather quiet soul
I have lived a large life, played a leader’s role
But we shared a defining moment, a dark night of the soul
Both stripped of our identities, both seeking to heal the hole
Sickness was the commonality that revealed the soul
Age did not stop him, he fought and he said no
Disability did not stop me, it was not my time to go
He now the patient, a wheelchair by his side
Just a couple of years ago he wheeled me, my guide
Strength, resilience, hope, faith a yearning to live
I am my Father’s daughter and to each other we give
There is no role or circumstance, no age, not rules, no guide
When a defining moment strikes what counts is who is by our side
Its in the gentle touch, the acceptance in the eyes
Its the reserving of the judgment, the letting go of the hows and whys
All we have is the present, to create for each other the space
We ask of each other nothing, just a gentle embrace
Almost 30 years separate us, but its only just time and space
As I watch him quietly resting, there’s a peace upon his face.
We had gently traded places, two hearts in the here and now
I am my Father’s daughter, there is no better place

Welcome to my World
WEEKLY THOUGHT FOR LIFE: A glass half full
I think so often in life, and in the world in general, we only hear about the tradegies and the “victims”, of a circumstance, whilst giving so little voice and ackowledgement to the “triumphants” the “heroines/heroes” of life.
I believe the world would be a much better place if we focused on the glass being half full versus half empty. Instead of reporting on how many % of people died from an illness or tradegy, what about sharing the % who not only survived, but thrived, and go on to live an amazing life? What a concept.
Anyway just a thought. I would love to hear your thoughts, perhaps you are one of those heroines or heroes? What made the difference for you?
Join me next week for another THOUGHT FOR LIFE
In possibility,
Karen
